My name is Pieter Jooste, and I live and work in Potchefstroom, North West Province, South Africa.
I make art because I must. My need for creative expression finds its way out through material processes. It is as if it must be expelled or pressured-out so that I can make space within me for the next tidal wave of inspiration. The need to process information through physical substances, to leave traces or marks that reflect an obsession with making, becomes the meditation. My intuitions are influenced by nature and the devine. Although, at times abstracted, these intuitions reveal themselves through creating something physical.
The symbols that emerge from the layering of materials and ideas are somewhat accidental or not necessarily intended, but this is where the potential lies – between the many layers of materiality and the abstract is where the energy is stored waiting to be revealed.
